Halloween Horrors in Portable Toilets
Halloween is a time of mysterious horror and danger. This is no different in the portable toilet industry. As the cover of darkness fades, technicians are left to be distressed by their discoveries. Some of these discoveries you may expect, but others may be a disturbing surprise.
Let’s enter the ominous world of darkness, beginning with the benign, and discover the damage left behind.
Graffiti
A portable toilet plastered with graffiti is unpleasant but not quite frightening. With rude words and lude drawings, the clean and respectable look of the toilet disappears. Often applied with paint, the removal of the vandalism is possible, but it is time-consuming and distasteful.
Animals
All creatures want a safe place to live, and it is not unusual for them to find portable toilets and mistake them for a good home. In other instances, they are placed inside as a prank or become trapped after entering. These animals include insects, spiders, mice and snakes, all of which can cause people quite a fright.
Clothing
Finding clothing in the portable toilets is one of the least likely discoveries, however, it does happen. There was an instance when our technician arrived onsite to clean a toilet. He was shocked and dismayed to find a pair of shoes, a shirt, a pair of shorts, a towel and a car seat liner in the tank. These needed to be removed by hand and placed in the trash. Although gloves were used, the fecal matter still managed to spread to the technician and the restroom. This may have been a prank, or it may have been retaliation, either way, someone was left without clothing and a great aversion for portable toilets.
Toilet Tipping
Toilet tipping is a prank that appears to be enjoyed by a large variety of individuals, though it is a thing of nightmares for the portable toilet companies. The number of times that Call of the Wild has been called to clean and right a tipped unit, is disturbing. If there was no one in the unit at the time of tipping and the unit was tipped backwards, the dread of clean up is not too bad. The calls that inspire fear are the ones where someone is trapped inside, or the units have been tipped forward. Because of the shape of the tank, forward tipping results in a lot more waste being spilled. There have been many times during these distasteful cleanups where vomiting is a genuine threat.
Waste
If toilet tipping is a technician’s nightmare, then unclean units and improper use are their nemesis. Human waste within the tank of the portable toilet is expected. What is not expected is human waste in the garbage, on the edges of the toilet seat and on the walls. This misuse is more common than you would think, making many technicians and customers gag and retreat in haste.
Needles
Other instances that inspire a hasty retreat, is the discovery of needles within the restrooms. As carriers of multiple diseases, they are treated with cautious dread. The use of gloves, tongues and sharps containers lessen the odds of being punctured, however, the dismay remains.
Destruction
There have also been multiple occurrences of destruction during the time that Call of the Wild has been in business, however, one instance stands out. A contractor, in a fit of rage, had a late-night rampage and ran over the rental toilet with a backhoe that was onsite. He also left significant damage to the foundation of a nearby building. Fortunately, there were no deaths involved in this frenzied fit of demolition.
Death
Other instances in the portable toilet industry are not so fortunate and have left the technicians and the portable toilets haunted. Sadly, there have been multiple cases where people have been found deceased within the rentals. Some of these deaths were due to overdoses; others were due to extreme cold. There have also been cases of newborns or infants found dead or abandoned within the restroom or it’s tank.
Conclusion
Amid the multiple discoveries brought on by the horrors of Halloween, death’s visitations are among the most disturbing. Despite this, the morning light typically reveals that the damage is not as distressing as it seemed under the cover of darkness.
Like any industry, the portable toilet business has its share of downfalls. For the most part however, technicians and their cleanings go smoothly. To help with this, please use the portable toilets in a respectful manner.
Happy Halloween!
