Construction Vs. Event Restroom Set Up
It is easy to assume that delivering and setting up a portable restroom is the same no matter the circumstance. Although there are some similarities, there are also quite a few differences. Let’s investigate the many aspects of construction and event restroom set ups.
Construction Set Up
Because construction rentals are typically long term, there are a few different things to think about when setting up and placing the unit.
Access
Access can be a tricky thing, especially on construction sites. Often the driveways are very narrow and have many vehicles parked along the side. Due to the size of our trucks, this can inhibit our technician’s ability to access and clean the unit. Other instances include machinery obstructing the way or construction workers parked directly in front of or close to the unit.
Site Traffic
If the site is very busy, consider moving the unit up the driveway. This will allow it to be cleaned without any interruptions. If it is not possible to move the unit, call the office and ask to be notified a few minutes prior to our technicians’ arrival. This will give the contractors time to move their vehicles and allow the servicing to be completed.
Parking
Please note that even if the vehicle is not parked in front of the unit but near it, our technician may use their discretion and not complete the servicing. This is because the hoses create quite a bit of movement during the cleaning process, and it is better not to risk damaging our client’s property.
Seasons
Seasons in Muskoka can vary wildly depending on the year. Generally, the worst seasons for servicing are winter and spring.
Winter
With the winter comes icy and non-maintained roads. This will often create difficulties in reaching and servicing the units. Because of the weight of the trucks and the liquid load, they often cannot drive on roads that are not plowed and sanded. Even if the contractors and other large vehicles can access the site, the liquid load creates a very different challenge. It is important that the contractor keeps access to the unit clear and sanded.
Potential Solution
If there are continued issues servicing, consider moving the unit to a more accessible location or switching to the island model. This model allows the main restroom to stay onsite, while the cubes are removed for servicing. However, it is the contractor’s responsibility to remove the cubes and bring them to the service location for the agreed upon time.
Spring
As the snow and ice begin to melt, the difficulties do not disappear. Roads become slippery and washed out. Once again, the weight of the vehicles will often create large ruts in the soft ground and the trucks can easily get stuck. The liquid load doesn’t do any favors on the slippery roads either.
Needless to say, there are many different factors in setting up and delivering construction units. Although these factors may be like the event aspects, they are very different set ups.
Event Set Up
The difficulty of the event set up generally depends on the size and location of the event. Although it is for different reasons, the main consideration is still access.
Access – Large Events
Typically, large event set ups are relatively simple. The open space needed for multiple restrooms is easily accessible for delivery. It is, however, important to consider the timing for any extra servicing requests in relation to the units’ location. If there are going to be food trucks onsite and large crowds, it will be better to service them in the evenings or early morning. This way the large trucks coming through, and the smells do not disrupt the festivities.
Access – Small Events
With smaller events, people need to consider the weight of the trucks and the length of the servicing hoses. Instead of leaving ruts in people’s lawns, and potentially damaging septic components, it is recommended that the restrooms be placed on or near the driveway. The technician’s hoses are also only 25ft, therefore the unit cannot be farther than 25ft away or it will not be able to be serviced. The same things apply to restroom trailer, although they also require hydro. For more information on trailer rentals check out our website or other blog posts.
Restroom Rental Tip With any rental it is good to remember that the units are mounted on the service truck. This makes for quite a high load and can create difficulties when there are low hanging branches on the delivery or pick up route.
Conclusion
All these considerations have shown the difference in set up for construction and event restroom rentals. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions regarding your construction site or event restrooms. There is also more information on our websites and other blog posts.
